Capture is a different skill from structure
Keep is built around the two seconds after you have an idea. Voice notes, checklists, a colour, and location-based reminders, wired into Assistant, Docs, and Calendar. It is free with a Google account and there is no premium tier to consider. For pure capture on a phone, nothing paid is meaningfully better.
Notion goes the other way. It wants you to declare a shape first: a database, a set of properties, a view, maybe a template. That effort pays back when the same structure absorbs 400 items. It is a tax when you are standing at a bus stop, and Notion's mobile app lags, which makes the tax worse.
Winner either Keep owns the first two seconds and Notion owns the next two months.
The organisational ceiling
Keep has no folders. Labels are the only organising tool and they stop at 50, which is the complaint that surfaces once someone has used it for a year or two. There is no markdown and only minimal formatting. Notes cannot reference each other at all, so there are no wikilinks, no backlinks, and nothing resembling a graph. Every note is an island with a colour.
Notion nests pages inside pages without limit, relates database rows to each other, and does support links between pages with backlinks. There is no graph view. The problem is at the other end of the scale: Notion slows down as workspaces and databases grow, which is among the most widely reported complaints about it, and search degrades on large workspaces.

Offline, and what happens to your notes without a network
Notion's own documentation describes offline support as partial: recently opened or explicitly marked pages, with nothing offline in the browser. A flight or a dead hotspot decides which of your notes exist for the next few hours, and that is a documented limitation rather than a bug report.
Keep handles offline reasonably for what it is, because each note is a few hundred bytes and the app is designed to accept input first and reconcile later. Neither app puts a copy of your notes anywhere you control. Keep's live in Google's cloud with Takeout as the only exit; Notion's live as proprietary blocks, and its help pages warn that a large workspace export can take up to 30 hours.

Notion's free tier is genuinely generous for one person. Plus runs $10-12 per user per month and Business $20-24, which is where the AI features now live after the standalone AI add-on was retired in May 2025. The 30-hour export warning is Notion's own, and exported markdown needs cleanup afterwards because blocks were never files. Both apps get more expensive to leave the longer you stay, in time rather than money.

The part neither app is trying to be
Keep captures and cannot hold. Notion holds and asks you to build the container first, then keeps the result as proprietary blocks in its cloud. Between the sticky note and the workspace sits the thing both skip: a library of your own writing that links to itself and stays readable without either vendor.
A Valutorio vault is a folder of markdown files on your Mac. Wikilinks autocomplete in under 0.5 ms, backlinks arrive with the sentence around them, and a graph snapshot of 2,000 files renders in 10 ms. Can Notion replace Google Keep for quick capture?
Partly, and worse. Notion has a mobile quick-capture flow, but the app lags on phones and every note still lands in a structure you have to have designed. Keep's advantage is that it asks nothing of you. Most people who try to consolidate into Notion drift back to a faster capture app within a month.
How do I get my Google Keep notes out?
Google Takeout is the only export route and it hands you an archive rather than a live folder. From there you can save the text as .md files in a directory and open that directory as a Valutorio vault, since a vault is just a folder. Keep has no links between notes, so any wikilinks are something you add afterwards.
Does Notion work offline?
